Define the work

Agree on the scope before the visit.

Use these questions to compare the same work. The provider should confirm what is included and what needs a separate assessment or quote.

Kitchens and bathrooms

List the surfaces and fixtures you want cleaned. Ask whether sinks, benches, showers and toilets are included, and identify any areas requiring special care.

Floors and living spaces

Describe floor types, rugs and accessible surfaces. Agree on vacuuming, mopping and dusting, including any rooms or items that should be left alone.

Priorities and extras

Rank the tasks that matter most. Ask separately about ovens, windows, cupboards, laundry and other extras; regular cleaning does not automatically include them.

Prepare a useful request

What should your request include?

Bring the property details and priorities together before contacting a provider directly.

Plan your quote
  1. Rooms and bathrooms

List the rooms to include and their approximate size. Note extra bathrooms, stairs and spaces that should be excluded.

  2. Current condition

Describe built-up grime, pet hair or areas needing extra attention. Ask whether an initial deeper clean should be quoted separately.

  3. Frequency and priorities

Consider weekly, fortnightly or another schedule. Ask whether the quote is based on agreed tasks or time, and how unfinished priorities will be handled.

  4. Products and access

Confirm who supplies products and equipment. Mention sensitive surfaces, product preferences, parking, keys and relevant access restrictions.

Before the visit

Turn the agreement into a practical plan.

Once you arrange work directly, confirm the provider’s instructions for your property.

  • Agree on a task list

Keep the included rooms, tasks, exclusions and priorities in writing. Confirm whether occasional extras must be arranged ahead of time.

  • Make surfaces accessible

Ask how much tidying is needed before the visit. Put away loose personal items where practical and identify belongings that should not be moved.

  • Explain products and surfaces

Point out special finishes and any product sensitivities. Ask the cleaner to confirm a suitable approach rather than choosing a method on their behalf.

  • Confirm access and changes

Arrange secure access and pets. Check cancellation, rescheduling and key-handling arrangements directly with the cleaner.

FAQ

Regular home cleaning questions, answered.

Can I request a quote here?

Not yet. The quote panel is a preview: nothing is sent or saved. Use this guide to prepare for a provider you contact directly.

What is included in a regular clean?

It depends on the cleaner and the scope you agree. List the rooms and tasks explicitly, and ask for optional extras and exclusions to be clear.

Do I need a deep clean first?

Not always. Describe the current condition and ask whether the first visit needs a different scope or amount of time.

Who supplies products and equipment?

Confirm this before booking. Discuss any surfaces, sensitivities or product preferences so the cleaner can explain what they can accommodate.

How often should I arrange cleaning?

Choose a starting frequency based on household use and the tasks you want help with. Review it with the cleaner after you understand what fits into each visit.
